Job Hazard Analysis Job Hazard Analysis
A Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) is essentially a risk assessment of a specific job or process. Conducting a JHA on an individual task or process is a method of improving knowledge regarding hazards or potential hazards in the workplace. In a Job Hazard Analysis, each segment of the job is examined to identify hazards so that the "safest way" can be determined.

Other terms used to describe this procedure are job safety analysis, job hazard breakdown or job risk assessment. These methods are used so that acceptable safety and health practices can be integrated into a particular operation or procedure. This process generally leads to the development of a written operating procedure or Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).

Besides safety, the a Job Hazard Analysis can be expanded into other aspects of a job. This is called a total job analysis, job analysis or task analysis. As this expanded version still regards safety is an integral part of the job, it also considers communications, production and effectiveness with the developed procedures.
