Course Title: EXCAVATION & TRENCHING COMPETENT PERSON

Location: On-site (at customer’s location)

Course Description:
This training program is intended for individuals designated as the Competent Person during excavation and trenching activities, which may include managers, Supervisors, lead workers or operators. It provides a fundamental understanding of excavation and trenching standards for the Competent Person, and exceeds State and federal training requirements. Participants receive a student workbook. Customers receive class rosters and course evaluations.

We recommended that ALL individuals who oversee excavation and trenching activities participate in this training program.

Course Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

• Be familiar with regulations, requirements and related issues.


• Understand responsibilities as THE Competent Person.


• Identify existing and predictable conditions that are hazardous or dangerous.


• Be familiar with the use of protective systems.


• Be familiar with soil analysis and the soil classification system.


• Understand the descision-making process for selecting protective systems.


• Read and understand tabulated data and tables for using shoring systems
