Course Description:
This training program is intended for individuals designated as the Competent Person during excavation and trenching activities, which may include managers, Supervisors, lead workers or operators. It provides a fundamental understanding of excavation and trenching standards for the Competent Person, and exceeds State and federal training requirements. Participants receive a student workbook. Customers receive class rosters and course evaluations.

We recommended that ALL individuals involved in excavation and trenching operations participate in this training program, which includes those persons needing awareness level training.

Course Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

• Be familiar with regulations, requirements and related issues.


• Understand responsibilities as THE Competent Person.


• Identify existing and predictable conditions that are hazardous or dangerous.


• Be familiar with the use of various protective systems.


• Be familiar with soil analysis and the soil classification system.


• Follow a decision-making process for selecting protective systems.


• Understand tabulated data and tables for using shoring systems.
